The Billboard’s on Fire!

This week I worked on the #1 and #2 albums in the country. Eminem’s Recovery and Rick Ross’ Telfon Don. It’s a first for my career and will be a foreshadowing of more to come in the near future. =) Eminem’s Recovery is still killing it at #1 on the Billboard charts for the 5th straight week while Rick Ross just made a fantastic debut selling 177.000. I did instrumentation on the following songs……

– “Slaughterhouse” Eminem Recovery
– “Live Fast, Die Young” Rick Ross Teflon Don

Vanguard Bliss

I’ve got one word for you. Vanguard. It’s the Holy Grail of trance arp sounds. I’m serious. Lately, I’ve been finding myself constantly using the synth on all my productions. From hip hop to dance to whatever. It just works. Whenever I’m stuck creatively, this synth carries me through the musical rut kicking and screaming.  It seems to produce fresh ideas out of thin air with the push of a single key.

You see, I had been on a quest to find decent trance sounds for what felt like before the B.C. era.  I searched endlessly through music nerd forums and what not trying to pick peoples brains. One false lead led to another until I came across a curious profile named “dookie12”. He seemed to be quite knowledgeable. Every post he had showed some sort of value to it. So I messaged him about trance sounds and hoped for the best. A few days later I got a message from him telling me to check out this older synth called Vangaurd. I was hesitant. It was old. Looked dated. The demo for the product sounded average. But I decided to take a leap of faith and bought it because it was just too cheap to pass on.  Plus, I was desperate.  Never under estimate a desperate man looking for synth sounds.

I admit, I wasn’t blown away when I first downloaded it. It took some tinkering. But my biggest love affair about it is the ease of use of the arpeggiator. So self-explanatory that my Grandma could even use the thing.. I was sold hook line and sinker once I bought all the extra presets. (highly recommend).

So in short, if you have $100 to spend, do it. You can thank me later. And I will thank dookie12.

Tsunami Entertainment

I’m pleased to announce that my production team The Skywalkers just acquired new management with Tsunami Entertainment. Tsunami has an extremely impressive roster of producers and artists including Goldfrapp and super producer Chris Vrenna. (two of my personal favorites). I’m absolutely thrilled that we’re apart of it! 2010 is shaping up to be an exciting year!

Asian Invasion

I’ve been working on some huge records in Asia over the past few months. Really excited about it. Mixed SS501’s single called “Love Like This”. It was #1 on the Asian charts for over two weeks.

Also just finished mixing Rain’s new single “Love Song”…… both the Korean and American version. In 2010, Rain made Time Magazine ‘s 100 Most Influential People. I think he’s the only person to have sold out Madison Square Garden 5 times in a row which is really amazing. The guy is super talented both as a musician and actor. I posted the video below to the song I mixed.. Check out the “body wave” move towards the end. It’s pretty unforgettable for better or for worse.
